According to Blackmagic, the Cinema Camera’s 2.5K sensor offers 13 stops of dynamic range which, if true, should make it extremely versatile, especially since it’s capturing uncompressed raw video with over twice the resolution of regular HD.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera has a built-in SSD recorder to store all that juicy footage in CinemaDNG RAW, ProRes or DNxHD formats.
The Cinema Camera’s relatively small size, inexpensive price point, and recording specs make it less of a competitor to the just announced Canon EOS-1D C ($15,000) or Red’s Scarlet-X($9,750) cameras, which both shoot 4K video, but more in line with the Digital Bolex ($2,500), that was announced at South By Southwest last month.
Once upon a time, motion picture cameras that created high-quality images were affordable for all filmmakers on any budget. Consumer 8mm and 16mm cameras like the original Bolex shot footage that could be projected on any movie theater screen.
In today’s digital market, ‘affordable’ and ‘consumer’ have become synonymous with ‘low-quality’ — but it doesn’t have to be that way. Introducing the Digital Bolex D16, the first digital cinema camera to shoot RAW at a price anyone can afford.

It’s inspiring true story about two thirteen-year-old girls who were, on the eve of World War II, great dancing and acting stars in Zagreb. Selling out theatre venues, they were praised in the most superb headlines by the Croatian and European press. They were filmed by Parisian Pathe and Berlin’s UFA…
During the Nazi persecution of Jews and the later German nationals’ flight from communists, a dramatic friendship was born through entertainment, dance, but also anxiety. This led towards an unexpected end.

“You see the world, you end up in jail three or four times, you accumulate experience. And it gives you something to say. If you don’t have anything to say then you shouldn’t be making films. It’s nothing to do with what lens you’re using.”
A high speed camera is a device used for recording fast moving objects as a photographic image(s) onto a storage media. After recording, the images stored on the media can be played back in slow-motion. Early high speed cameras used film to record the high speed events but today, high speed cameras are entirely electronic using either a charge-coupled device or a CMOS image sensor, recording typically over 1000 frames per second into DRAM and playing slowly images back to study the motion for scientific study of transient phenomena.[1] A high speed camera can be classified as (1) a high speed film camera that records to film, (2) a high speed framing camera that records a short burst of images to film/digital still camera, a high speed streak camera that records to film/digital memory or (3) a high speed video camera recording to digital memory.
Colour grading is a demanding creative and technical process for any production – from commercials and long form television to feature film 4K DI. For any finishing process, flexibility and responsiveness are essential.

Cinematographer Style is about the art of how and why films look the way they do. It is about the influence of style, technique and technology-the art and craft of filmmaking.
Cinematographer Style is a feature documentary exploring the nuances of the universal art of visual story-telling. Director Jon Fauer, ASC visited with 110 cinematographers from 15 countries, who have worked in all sectors of the industry, including feature films, television, documentaries, commercials and music videos. Shot on 35mm film, the interviews were edited down to a 90-minute story.
The lesson that this film teaches is that there is no textbook and no rules for artful cinematography. It is an art-like painting, writing literature or composing music. No two artists express themselves in exactly the same way. This is a must-see film for writers, directors, producers, actors and others who collaborate with cinematographers, and also for journalists and film buffs. It will provide valuable insights into the art of cinematography and filmmaking. The body language, animated facial expressions and eyes of 110 great storytellers projected on a big screen in order to fully appreciate the words and deeply held feelings about their art. ARRI, Kodak, Technicolor, and many other organizations and individuals volunteered their support and services.

HOLLYWOOD, California, November 3, 2011/TOKYO, November 4, 2011 – Canon Inc. today announced that the company is developing a new-concept EOS-series digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. Incorporating an enhanced version of the video-capture capability offered in the current EOS-series lineup, the new camera will be ideally suited for cinematographic and other digital high-resolution production applications. The model will be equipped with a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor and, enabling the recording of 4K video (at a frame rate of 24P, with Motion-JPEG compression), will make possible the type of exceptional image quality and sublime imaging expression to be expected from the next generation of “EOS Movies.”
Cinematography (from Greek: kinema - κίνημα ”movement” and graphein - γράφειν ”to record”) is the making of lighting and camera choices when recording photographic images for cinema. It is closely related to the art of still photography. Many additional technical difficulties and creative possibilities arise when the camera and elements of the scene may be in motion.
